The Outdoor Bowls season began on a very warm Easter Saturday with all rinks being played on in a friendly drive. After a winter indoors and some of us coming back a week from playing on fast Portugese greens reaching the jack was a challenge! It was great to be back meeting up with old friends.

So far this month we have played 11 friendlies and have come out winner in most of them. It has been very encouraging to see so many names available for these games. Many of the new players from last season are gaining valuable experience through match play now.

One round of Club Triples has been played and these games will become weekly events on Friday evenings from now on. Food and drink will be available after the games to continue the Social Evenings that became so popular in the Winter. Our thanks must go to Alesha and Dennis for all their hard work.

The Open Morning was well attended and we have a dozen people in coaching at present. It is not too late if anyone in the area wishes to come and join us to learn this captivating game.

The County Competitions are well under way and congratulations must go to Terry Hurley -Smith who has won the Section Finals in the Men’s 4 wood singles and with Peter Barradell in the County Pairs.

In the Senior Rinks Liz Wilde, Ruby Grigg, Marian Vessey and Sue Dando  have won the Section and march on to the County Quarter finals as well.

With 4 weeks of league games having been played, the Men’s Over 60’s A team are top of Division 1 and the Men’s Over 60’s C team are top of Division 8 in the Exeter and District League both teams being undefeated.

In the ladies Over 50’s league the Blue team are also undefeated and is top of Division 1.

So this has been a brilliant start to the season. We look forward to warmer weather and more great games.
